My character is a krogan vanguard who was semi-self-exiled from Tuchanka, named Krull. Sit tight, I kind of got carried away on the origin story; there's gonna be a TL;DR, if you prefer.
Krull was born on Tuchanka, and as a young krogan, before his Rite of Passage, he was the sole survivor of an ambush from a rival clan. All of his "friends" (Tareq is forcing me to put that in quotes; he maintains krogan don't HAVE friends) and his father were in the squad, and Krull quickly grew disillusioned with the "might-makes-right" philosophy of the krogan. His view was that it was the duty of the strong to protect the weak, and who's stronger than a krogan? Furthermore, he began to feel that the genophage was the krogan's own fault for forcing the other races' hands; had they not attempted to oust the Citadel races from their own planets, they would not have gotten desperate and castrated his species. As a natural biotic, he was feared by other krogan. The fear translated in respect, but he felt he hadn't earned that respect, and hated and resented that it came between him and the others in his clan. As a result, he never reveals this ability to people he doesn't trust (THERE, now it makes sense that he suddenly becomes a biotic when we level up
). In an act of defiance, Krull refused to take his Rite of Passage, and was exiled from Tuchanka. He now refuses to tell anyone which clan he was born into, as he as completely embraced this exile and generally hates other krogan.
Frustrated and filled with ill-defined rage, he fell in with a mercenary squad led by a drell assassin who mentored him and taught him meditation, allowing him to focus and control his bloodrage (I dunno if there's a way to show this crunch-wise; if anyone can think of one, great, but I'm perfectly fine with just restricting it to fluff). He also gained a slightly more peaceful attitude, but it obviously couldn't completely eradicate his krogan instincts. In terms of krogan, Krull's basically as laid back as The Dude, but in terms of other races, it just means he’s relatively slow to anger.
Eventually, the merc squad got in some trouble after a shoot-out in the Wards on the Citadel, and Krull was arrested. The turian captain who had arrested him, however, had her highly unfavorable beliefs about the krogan rocked to the core; here was one who didn't immediately resort to headbutting to solve his problems, one who could actually control his bloodrage. She was very impressed, and throughout Krull's sentence, the captain would visit him. At first it was only out of curiosity, but eventually a mutual respect bloomed, almost a friendship. After his release, he began doing odd-jobs for the captain, and the mutual respect started to turn in to a mentorship. From her, Krull learned to respect law and order, further ostracizing him from his own species.
After a few years of this, during a period of C-Sec recruiting, the captain encouraged Krull to apply. Normally, a krogan wouldn't have even been considered, but he had shown himself to be reliable many times and had the recommendation of a highly respected captain. He did extremely well in all the recruitment tests or whatever, and was accepted, among a veritable shitstorm of political backlash, which he completely ignored. Over several decades of never seeing another krogan on the force, Krull proved himself and was eventually invited to the special response unit of C-Sec.
This was satisfactory to him for a long time, but eventually, his krogan nature reared its head, and he started to chafe under the strict rules of the police force. He still respected the law, but also came to understand that some rules are meant to be broken, so when the chance to join up with this volus spectre's task force came up, Krull pounced on it.
TL;DR: Krull hates the krogan, thinks the genophage was the krogan's own fault, learns to meditate, joins C-Sec.
