Hi all,
MacMicro (the computer department in Titles Bookstore) is going to be carrying some gaming-related items (including M:TG expansions, starting with Return to Ravnica in October) for this school year. Seeing as all of us are one sort of gaming geek or another, we're also hoping to get Wizards authorized to host tournaments and hopefully get access to some of the sweet prize cards that they offer for official tournament prizes.
I'm wondering if there is anyone from the Nerd Club Executive around Hamilton over the summer who might be willing to chat with me about whether or not you guys are already Wizards authorized, and what sort of help we can offer you (for example: space and pizza for tournaments, along with the hosting and scoring, etc?). I'd also like to know if there's anything else you'd like to see us carry in stock at the bookstore. I'm more of a video gamer and old-school tabletop person, so I'm a little lost with the Warhammer stuff, for example. Just drop me an email if you have a few minutes and are in Hamilton!
Thanks in advance, Courtney (sheppacl@mcmaster.ca)

Hey, not sure if you are going to check here or wait for the email, but right now we are trying to replace our old VP magic as he graduated and we have yet to crown a new magic king.
Still, we loovvvessss this idea and i will either appoint someone and send them your way, or simply send the prez to do so.

I'm checking here too :-) Definitely send someone our way whenever you can. I've started placing pre-orders for Ravnica already so that I can make sure we have that at launch, and we also just received our first shipment of Munchkin (I love this game so so much), Bowling Zombies, and a few other odds and ends. If I get a better handle on what you folks would like to see, and how many people want things like M:TG expansions as they happen, I can do a better job at making sure we have the right things in stock, and enough of them to go around, and get running those authorized tournaments.
I'd love any suggestions that anyone else reading this board might have about what you'd like to see us carry. Everyone should definitely feel free to drop me an email, or post here, or come by and see me in person at the store with suggestions and ideas.
Looking forward to getting you know you folks better; I've been on your mailing list since my undergrad!

Ahhh this is interesting. We as a club are NOT WotC authorized, but that would be very cool, and if there was an MTG retailer on campus, as well as gaming space, that would make our lives ten thousand times easier. Now, I'd personally love to see some Games Workshop products, but that might be a little much to ask. If you want to meet someone, then I can meet with you.

Magic at Titles --> spontaneous drafts, and potential sanctioning for on-campus events? Hells yes!
I'm not a very active member of the club but I'd be glad to help out with this, being quite the Magic enthusiast myself (I generally go to at least one tournament a week of varying levels of competition).
Er...I just remembered I'm on co-op for a year in Mississauga, but 'til then I'm a Hamilton native.

What i have been told about stocking Games Workshop likened it to a pyramid scheme. Almost certainly not worth it

I can second Brent's sentiments on the Warhammer - it is apparently horrible for small retailers. MtG is a good thing. I'd suggest Warmachine (Look into Privateer Press products), but that is out of personal bias.
Acrylics are always a great idea - modeling acrylics, and fine-point brushes.
