This thread will be used to store the working info for the 28 Turns Later tournament as it is put together.
The basic premiss is as such, a group of DM's will be gathered and given a complete adventure to run. On a set time/date each of them will be given a group of PC's and they will run this adventure for them. The adventure will have a number of 'save points' events or places that are noted as an achievement. The goal is for each party to try and get the highest achievement level before the set time when the adventure ends.
We will be giving out prizes to the winning group, to anyone who achieves a set level of success and even a door prize just for showing up (dice). Likewise those DM's who are a part of this will also be rewarded with a prize of their own for showing up and helping out.
DM's will have to toss in their hat a while ahead of time and agree to set the game date aside. If they do this then they will be invited in to the editing and creation process for the adventure itself. Now, due to the competitive nature of this, there is little room for the DM's to deviate from the adventure as written, though all NPC's and little details are in their hands the DCs, and creatures should not be altered. Also the goal is to kill the PC's, so no pulling punches.
To add a little heroic feeling to the game, I think Each player should be given a single re-roll of any roll they make. (ex: save, attack, skill) On that note, the players will know well in advance what the rules are for character creation, and we will hold a day to help them put their pc's together, so no leeway on game day.
As for Character creation, we will have a set list of books, EVERYTHING in those books is aloud, nothing else at all is. All PC's will be at the same level, and have the same amount of starting wealth. We will use 32 point, point buy, and max hp.
Yes, Clerics will be strong. Yes rogues will not. So on and so forth.... suck it up princess.
Story as I see it, we have a large awesome city.... gets over run by an evil lich and his endless minions. City fell a week ago, the king has ordered all the mightiest heroes of the land to gather to fight this menace, offer large amounts of wealth for the lich's head. The Pc's are said heroes, and have been sent in to enter via ?????, and make their way down ???? st, to the church of Pelor where they can rest safely for the night and be healed by any priests who are held out there. Then make their way to the palace and confront the Lich Lord ????? himself.
We intend to have a very detailed map of the city, as well as pre-drawn battle grids for each battle (on large graph paper) as well as hand outs and such for the DM's to use. They will be given mini's, markers, and what ever else they need. Pure class.....
We will put up posters (made by Ashley Robert's Design), as early as club's fest, and likely put these up in comic shops as well as on campus making it open to all, not just club members.
The date will be set well in advance (months) and will be set in a time where there should be no exams or mid-terms. It will likely be on a weekend, starting in the afternoon (2 or 3 ish) and going until 11 at the latest, as we will have a cut off time.
I am thinking level 8ish should be good, but not sure yet.
if this goes well, I may try to have it run at Fan Expo, or Hammer Con the following year, as well as submitting it to Wizards.
I am open to ideas, but unless people sign up to DM this they have limited to no say in what comes out in the end. (I will be posting this more openly once more details have been hammered out)
