I just got an idea for a mission or 2 I'd like to DM next year. If someone would be willing to show me the ropes to making a good quest and how to run it, that would be most appreciated.

I'm willing to run a tutorial or two for new PCs/ new DMs.
Some people will learn better by reading, other people will learn better by doing.
I'm going to try and get both of those methods up and running.
Asap, Crash Course Style:
Learn by Reading: There are published free 3.5 adventures that I always recommend.
Learn by Doing: Easiest way to get a very quick idea is to run something for other DMs and ask for feedback.

Honestly there is not a lot you can learn about DMing until you start doing it, from what I have seen anyway.
I'd say read the DMG, and have two or three DM's show you something they wrote so you can see what finished work looks like in two or three styles.
I know I write adventures very different from Jesse, Peachy, Adrian, and Steve.... Liz and I write kind of the same as I often end up helping her out with hers... though she does less on the spot stuff than I.
Though it is always nice to set shotgun on someone elses adventure.. so Jesse's lesson maybe worth sitting in on. If you are around for the summer maybe try to run something for a small group once or twice then... maybe with a co-dm.

So, how long would it take Wurg to drive chromatic dragons to extinction on this new plane?

Collector of Stories, skill trick from Complete Scoundrel. +5 on all knowledge checks to identify a monster, it's abilities and weaknesses. Does it apply to bardic knowledge checks?

I am writing up a character who is as far as anybody needs to know, an animal companion. (I can no imagine the Hammer of Moradin guy to choose this campaign over his own plane so he's out)
They are trained as a healer (medicines and somesuch) as well as an army planner.
He was an orphan/slave of sorts to the military, didn't know his actual family.
Dunno how I am going to explain being a military planner, seeing as he doesn't speak, but does understand language.
He was, popular, pretty much treated as a pet (magically down a size category, when he would otherwise become large in the campaign, he's only becoming medium as a result, likes being small though so he may have to get this magic upgraded somehow) EDIT: size issue solved, there is a collar that makes animals small sized regardless of original size.
Some of the high up army guys don't like him so that might be his motivation to join you people.

You shouldnt worry about your guys reasons for getting onboard the ship. From what I understand the ship chooses you not the other way round. What classes are you thinking of taking?

The way it looks now, we will start at level 3 to 5, and all PC's will be kidnapped.
Also you can be from ANY campaign setting, or if you want to come up with your own home world that is fine.

I've got my character. Dream Dwarf Cleric 1/Wizard 4/ Runesmith 5/Geometer/ X. Sigil User of Vindashaen.
All about magic circles and symbols. Spellglyph Rune Magic is the most awesome thematic choice for a character serving the infinate serpent.

Sounds cool, keep in mind we are starting low level.

Yep.
There will be an awkward period between the level 3-4 we start at and level 6ish when I get my first runesmith level, so I might not play at all until that point.

I thought that this year's related PC miniparties (The Admantine Order sticking out in particular) were an interesting thing.
If anyone else is looking to work on another group of related PCs for next term, give me a shout.
(It'll also allow us to roll into games with a balanced party quicker and make things nicer for DMs.)
