Use common sense? And if someone is too intense with it, you could of course just tell them and ask them to tone it down a bit.
Addendum: Try and design characters with scalable abilities. For example with the psion I made last year. I could adjust that character's power level from being anywhere from straight-classed fighter to downright stupid depending on what I chose to do with my turns. Then, dynamically adjust such that you're roughly on terms with the rest of the party.
Tips for having a scalable power level: All day buffs / passive strength (Saves, AC, Immunities) are extremely hard to adjust on the fly, where something like possible attack strategy or temporary buffs are easy to scale.

Yea, there's no blanket solution to power gaming. People are just going to have to self-regulate on a case by case basis.

Fair enough, though the difficulty comes from knowing when to draw the line. Power creep is all to common I'm afraid.

Reverse Power creep? Challenge yourself to be exactly secondmost powerful, and then people will slowly undercut downwards?

Too lazy to login.
I was thinking, and this may be me being a jackass, but honestly, I have no problem with crippling your character, as a DM, if you are power-gaming. A permanent lost eye, or some other such ailment, should be acceptable. I don't know. We need to give a briefing to experienced players, and they need to tone it down. The club game should be a place where new players can make what they want, and experienced players should be building the character 'that should really suck' and making it work anyways.

Nah, I really like being powerful, and so long as you don't stifle other people's fun that is fine imo. You can play a wizard or a cleric or what have you and be really powerful without inhibiting people's fun if you play it right. You can also totally destroy a session. And playing characters that aren't able to successfully contribute in encounter's because they were built very poorly isn't much fun for new players either. I agree they should be able to play whatever concept they have, but pathfinder already did a decent job of balancing the classes in general, we just have to make sure the new players understand the mechanics of the game and can do something within those limits.

It is true that min-maxing pros like this guy ^ should be allowed to have fun too. Though I hate the effect such buff PC's can have on a game, it's not fair to limit anything.... it is fair to punish dickishness though.

I agree with nygil. And it is fair to help everyone have fun at the same time, and that includes the dm, and making characters that aren't heads and shoulders above others is part of that, or at the very least, not playing them that way unless you're in a peachy-esque dungeon.

Ya, haha. Trouble with the club game is balancing 30 people instead of the normal 4-6. Pathfinder should help us with that, and my/brent's willingness to just slap people for being a tool this year should help as well. Also as a club (wrong thread for this i know) I'd like to propose we PAY Alvin to make the world map for this game. For me low magic game he came up with this. Updated it a bit based on what I said and off my MS paint hex map. HAhaha

I love it when people want to give me money. Edit: I have spoken with Eddie. He has agreed to allocate ALL our club funds for this project.
