Hey all,
So, a friend of mine and I have been working on a fan edit of D20 Modern since the beginning of this summer. We've made some significant progress and feel we're at the point where we can have some new eyes come in and look over our revisions. If you're interested in designing content, instead of just playing, than keep reading.
Our goal is to make a good modern system. One that is mostly compatible with other D20 materials, one that is neither too rules heavy and too rules light, and that deeply and flavourfully explores its subject matter. My friend and I don't like the other modern offerings out there - they either attempt to do too much (True20) or too little (The Modern Path, Modern20).
Our primary inspiration has been the innovations to 3.5 D&D introduced in Pathfinder, namely making single classing optimal, the combat maneuver system, standardized afflictions, etc.
In addition, we've removed the D&D magic system, and added the hex-grid and facing rules from Unearthed Arcana. Plus, we've added an Armor as Damage reduction system, but only for ballistics. The result is, we hope, a game that is tactically deep, engaging, and flavourful, without needing the difficult to tac-on fantasy elements that dogged D20 Modern.
If you're interested in helping, respond to this message. Or share your thoughts. I'd be especially interested if you played D20 modern, or any other tactical RPGs.
-Cheers
