If I can get +10 dex +2 con +4NA 60(good) fly speed and blindsight blindsense in exchange for scent, track and free trip attempts by changing animals to something that only costs one more hit die, will you smack me?

Desmodu Bat? (If so, how did you find one?)
Sample Runesmith is simply an invalid character.
Wizard 5/Runesmith 2.
Magically has Heavy Armor Proficiency without Light or Medium.
Eugh.
A fun game is to try and find sample characters that actually WORK. By which I mean: A) Don't break any rules B) Actually contribute something.

No worries, still probably going to stick with a not stupid broken animal. Haven't looked up fleshraker but supposedly also ban deserving.

Honestly, my favourite animal companion was a regular falcon.
Pros ) Nobody is going to bother you over a bird that can ride on your shoulder )Getting a tiny-sized bird buffed to the point where it oneshots things is positively hilarious )Impossible to hit
Fleshrakers are silly. And don't take disguises well. And are annoying on upkeep. And they aren't (As Written) fluffy.

Wearing a collar (Arms and Equipment Guide) that takes me to small size from whatever larger size I am. It can be taken off when going Rawr is needed. Likely just sticking with wolf or similar animal though.
Likely building semi stealth.

How are we determining the LA of someone playing an animal?
Also, instead of being so noisy that I always fail my move silently checks, I'll be taking the alternate class feature Mimicking Song. How beating on my drums will give the party a bonus to move silently, we may never understand, but now I can do the James Bond or Mission Impossible theme while we're sneaking along and no one will tie me up and gag me.

Messaged you about it but shh. In theory playing a druid without the druid would work, no actual mechanics for finding awakened animal la that I can find (actually, if there is any and I just can't find it let me know). Will explain actual workings to dms if asked.

I can think of plenty.
Should be fine by me as long as you stay within the rules. (You can generally get away with "More interesting but weaker" in terms of flavour-based changes.)
One of the things I'd like to try at some point but will likely not get to is the Bonded Summoner class from the MiniHB.
It's capstone turns you into a greater elemental.

Hmmmn.
To better be infoguy, I might be doing something with psionics instead of runesmith.
Character itself doesn't particularly change much.

Investigation Sucessful.
Results:
Drops number of books needed by 2. Drops, quite possibly, all multiclassing and prestige classing from the character. Keeps the rune motif anyways. Is slightly weaker but WAY simpler.
Probably working towards this more now.

Have a build.
I like it more for it's flavour than anything else.
Playing a character focused on runes and crystals.
It's going to be combat weak for a while, but out of combat will be fantastic.

I love those little mechanical quirks that make characters interesting. One of my favourite abilities my marshal is going to have is the ability to see through magical darkness with his 120 foot darkvision.
